I think I stole this idea from the survival guide, but I'll throw it on here.

The idea is a backpack that is handy and you can grab in case you need to leave our fortress (ie it is being overrun and you need to bug out).

What would your pack contain?

I'm thinking...

Tools:
spare pistol and ammo
spare knives (bowie, folder, multitool)
can opener (small like the P.38 or like one on the old boy scout knives)
4-5 bic lighters and some waterproof matches

Consumables:
2-3 days worth of food (MREs? Candy bars?)
1 L of water (or more)
water purification tablets

Misc:
extra set of keys (car, house, etc)
small first aid kit. minimum some sterile bandages, tape, antiseptic, pain killer (tylenol, aspirin)

Clothing:
2-3 pairs of socks
change of underwear (in case you get in an accident, of course)
maybe a couple shirts and a pair of pants?

I've probably gone over the practical weight or volume limit. Any thoughts?

this is an awesome idea but there are some things I'd add like a Camel pack, magnifying glass ,hatchet, something to cook on.this is a good one we should all add something to and make them E.Z.D.P. (Emergency Zombie Desaster Pack)

grab a couple cans of sterno for lite cooking, its lightweight and reusuable. Iw will be wearing some heavy pants like Carrharts, boots, long sleeve shirt, leather belt with my lockback and Leatherman multi-tool and a pair of good mechanic type gloves. I would grab my pack which is small but holds a 2liter water bladder, inside it has a first aid kit, pain reliever, hurricane matches, 3 cans of sterno, the food contents of 3-4 MRE's, some chocolate bars an extra pair of socks and a clean shirt and a light but water proof jacket and an emergency blanket. Strapped to the outside would be my custom protective mask/goggle combo. I would have my weapons on me for defense. I will have to rely on my street smarts for scavenging, shelter and general survival. Hopefully I will be able to get to my truck which is well equipped for a quick escape!

We always called 'em bug out bags, same basic principal.

In my bug-out bag, you will find:

2 $0.50 ponchos

2 space blankets

1 stainless 1911 in .45

5 magazines for the 1911 (2 loaded, 3 unloaded... I can explain that if anyone's interested)

100 rounds .45acp

3 MRE's

6 pairs Socks

2 pairs underwear

1 T-shirt

1 pair nylon cargo pants with removable (zip-off) leg sections

2 pre-paid cell phones (pre-activated on the pay-per-usage type plans,)

2 $10 prepaid cell cards (so that I can use the phones, good for about 40 minutes each)

A small first aid kit http://nozombies.com/forum/index.php/topic,45.0.html to see what's in it

3 candles (useful for light, but wax has some good uses as well...)

waterproof strike anywhere matches

5 disposable lighters

2 non-lubricated condoms (they have a lot of uses, they're actually in the first aid kit, but thought they where worth mentioning here)

2 LED flashlights, and 6 batteries (each light takes one AA battery)

2 p.38 can openers

1 pocket knife

1 fixed blade knife (5 inch blade)

1 multi-tool (this one is a cheap chinese one... should be a leatherman or equivalent)

$300 cash

Prepaid credit card with $100 on it.

1 roll of toilet paper. (besides it's obvious use, you can use it to strt fires, clean your glasses etc.)

I think that's all that's in mine, it's not everything you need, but having some cash means I can probably get most of the stuff I don't already have...

I'm in the Boy Scouts, and first of all, that's more or less the same stuff I would bring. Secondly, I know, from experience, that with the right pack, you could most likely fit all of that in there without a serious incident. Keep in mind, you'd probably be keeping some of those (pistol+ammo, tools, bandages, etc.) in your pockets, not just in the pack.

I have a large LCE pack that I use for a B.O.B. It has several loops on the outside to use alice clips to attach other items. On the outside I have

 A machete (18" Cold Steel)

A small first aid kit on the shoulder strap

A water filter (Press 2 Pure, it is the size of a military 1 quart canteen, and stored in a canteen cover with iodine tablets in the side pouch)

A 1 quart canteen, cover, cup and stove, with some tablets to take the iodine taste out of the water

And my sleeping bag on the bottom

On the inside I have

3 large, heavy duty trash bags. (you can cut arm and head holes for an emergency poncho, use them for a makeshift shelter, use them to get water)

3 pairs of socks

An extra change of clothes (pants, underwear, long sleeve shirt)

2 Pairs of gloves, 1 thin jersey pair and 1 leather pair

A larger first aid kit

A Multi tool with bit set

Heavy duty wire cutters ( I should replace these with small bolt cutters)

100 feet of small diameter rope

Gun cleaning kit ( a surplus 30/45 cal I picked up for a song)

A couple cheap Bic lighters and a magnesium firestarter

Dryer lint

A folding knife

A Ka-Bar

About 3 P38's I've got in different pouches so I'll be able to find one of them

A 5 quart canteen, collapsible, stored unfilled

A flashlight and an extra set of batteries

Some goofy wind up flashlight/blinker/siren/radio/cell phone charger/compass

A roll of toilet paper

A bunch of TM's and FM's that I keep in one of the outside pockets, although sometimes I take them to work to read, so at any time I may or may not have them, although FM 21-76 SURVIVAL and FM 21-11 FIRST AID FOR SOLDIERS pretty much stay in there. I occasionally take other things out to use and forget to put them back, and also know I probably forgot a few items. I also need to get some MRE's and other items, I usually have canned albacore tuna in there for food

I have two bags. A backpack and a military duffle. The point being that if I have to loose the duffle, I won't be too heart broken. It is more of a bonus bag, and it can carry a lot of things like clothes and other stuff.

Backpack:
One military tent.
One 3 foot walking staff.
One -30 sleeping bag, with slip cover enabling waterproof and -50.
One first aid kit. Small.
One blow out kit. Small.
Four boxes of waterproof matches in ziplock bag.
A bag of bics.
Rolling papers, emergency tin, seeds in container, all in ziplock bag.
One box of rice.
One water flask.
Two water canteens. (Hang on exterior of pack)
Candles.
Flares.
Glo sticks.
Binoculars. NV.
One Gas Mask w filters.
One pair of overalls, and one change of clothes. Padding at bottom of bag!
Three rolls duck/duct tape.
Three rolls black hockey tape.
Food rations: Pressed bars, various canned. More bars than cans. Cans = Heavy
Various felts and pens. Notepad.
Maps.
Compasses. 2X
Small fishing rig.
Chapstick and some medicines.
Mp3 player and batteries.
Mag lite.
Small radio (keychain) in ziplock.
Grappling hook and 14 ft rope.
Climbing claws for hands and feet, also double as weapon.
One shovel. (The folding kind. I have an old military one, and a new one from a camping store)

That is all in the backpack and things I pretty much feel I need to have on me at all times. Weapons are not in the bag, they are attacked to it, or attached to the webbing. For weapons I got plenty of stuff.
Throwing knives.
Bo shuriken.
Throwing stars.
Machete.
Howling Wolf limb lopper.
Raider II boot knife.
All manner of martial arts weapons.
Guns are something I lack, but I think I could hold my own until I could get my hands on some in the event of total zombiedom.

The duffle has clothes, and other niceties that make roughin it a little sweeter. As I said, it is all stuff that really is not too necessary for survival.

The van is camperized, so it is packed up and ready too! The wife has a similar go bag, and her very own machete and gas mask too!  Cheesy

Of course, there are many more things I would like to get, but for now that is about all I have. I sleep a little easier anyways. All apocalyptic things considered.

Forgot to add a nice big bottle of lighter fluid. Can come in handy when you need a fire quick. It is also in a ziplock bag.

Personally, I don't generally have a "survival" kit, more a "this is the stuff I can't live without for two or more days" kit. Contains the following.

One or both of my swords, being a italian rapier or an german longsword (yes I do carry these openly everywhere I go)

My trenchcoat, which is old and full of holes, but still has some life in it

and if I'm in the wilderness, my hunting bow, a book on edible mushrooms, a First Aid Kit with bare minimum two bandaids and some medical tape/gauze.

Plus whatever I can carry in my hands.  Needless to say, I don't tend to travel heavy. All that usually runs to about fourty pounds. The sword and the coat is most of it. I decided long ago to line the coat with chainmail. If only because I can.

I've already got my two pistol holsters and and clip holders and my riot-control shotgun holster... so i'd probably pack about six or seven cans of canned food, three or four days worth of clothes, a few boxes of extra ammo, a few knives, and the rest of my money that i save up for emergencies.

I still don't see why you need money after the apocalypse. Just take what you need. I mean, if its a small outbreak, why are you running anyway? If its a big outbreak though, head for the hills or whatever and take what you need on the way

I'm counting on human nature here. Money will always have value to some people, and Id rather barter than steal personally.

My buggout bag is in case of emergency in general, not just Zombie Outbreak. For most things, a little bit of cash can go a long ways!
