You said you didn't see the point of a mask, then said what kind you'd wear, I guess I was the only one that thought it was funny. The point of them would depend on hot the infection is spread. Bruce started this thread because of the way infection was spread in 28 Days Later, by infected blood getting into your bloodstream via cuts, bites or orifices. A mask would help prevent splattered bodily fluids from reaching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Hadn't really thought of that. Though, I figured it fell into Other Equipment. And in response to the person who claimed running or swimming would be difficult, I agree and disagree. Swimming would be difficult, but I don't swim. Physically, I don't know how. So I don't. Running, however, isn't so much a problem. I wear the coat so often that it's not heavy anymore, if you know what I mean.

I got ya. But a mask could be used depending on circumstance. Say, your in a room and there is a gas leak. Mask will work fine until you get out. Say the area your in smells like a**, wear a mask  Grin

If I had to leave my bunker, you can bet I'll be wearing full MOPP 4 gear minus the overboots.  It would take a pretty wicked set of teeth to get through a J list suit and ABUs.  My gas mask would be a welcome extra level of eye/face protection.

I'm a bit of an idiot, what does all the high lighted stuff mean?

MOPP (Mission Oriented Protective Posture) (acronym pronounced as "mop") is a military term used to describe protective gear to be used in a toxic environment, i.e., during a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) strike- wiki

MOPP4 is the condition that offers the highest level of protection.  You wear your JSLIST pants and hooded coat, gas mask, rubber gloves and inserts, and rubber overboots.  You wear all that over your regular uniform.

The JSLIST suite is our chemical protective suite.

ABU is the Airman Battle Uniform, kinda like the old BDUs.

Here's a pic of MOPP4 with the old mask

Thanks for educating me. I should have figured out the ABU since it sounded so much like BDU or ACU, but it's always better to ask if you're not sure. Are you in the service?

No problem, I learn something new every day!  Enlisted for 11 years as of last month.  We have to wear all that gear along with our battle rattle, IBA, and helmet a few times a month for training.  Not as fun as it sounds.

I sure hope you're in a place a lot cooler and less humid than it is here.
