I think this should have it's own thread, a topic for other gear to get you prepared. Watching 28 days later, the plague could be from blood or bodily fluids, this beig said I have come up with an idea that will lessen the possibility of getting your eyes or face exposed to fluids of the undead. As a avid paintball player I have several protective face masks and with some minor modifications, they can easily be retrofitted to protect the eyes and face of the wearer from infected fluids. You first need a good single pane thermal lens mask. I recommend the V-force Grillz or V-force profiler. cover the vent on the top of the goggle to keep fluids out and cover the vents on the inside of the bottom part to keep your mouth clean. you could also wear a N42 (I think) chemical mask underneath to protect from fumes or smoke. Looks like a dust mask but much heavier duty. SavePhace also makes a good mask that needs less modification as it has a military grade fog and scratch resistance and smaller vents in the actual face area and they are made for boating, atv, and sandrail type activities, the military tank gunners wear them as well, so this may be a better alternative if you have access to them. They will also come in handy if you are riding in a vehicle that has had all the windows broken out or removed, the back of a truck or whatever. also in high wind, sand, snow etc.

Military surplus gas masks would be good as well, just be sure to read the instructions for proper adjustment for a good air/fluid tight fit. Always wanted to get into paintball, it seemed like good anti zombie training, but in a small town it's hard to find players. Would any of the other gear give bite protection

The pants are very heavy duty. reinforced in all the right spots. It would be hard for them to be bitten through. The gloves and under gear padding might do all right, but the jerseys are way too thin. Paintball is a blast to play. teaches you to work for head shots since most of your opponent is hidden behind a bunker. I say using a paintball style mask because they are meant for battle so to speak. you can wear them comfortably all day even during extreme exertion and stress. During Z-day you wont have to worry too much about gas or fumes rather than fluids or actual physical attacks

it has been a couple years since i read it, but i think the guide suggests something like this http://www.neptunic.com/

it should definitely protect you from the stray "OMG I GOT BIT IN THE CALF WHEN I WASN'T LOOKING!" but i don't know if it would protect you from being torn limb from limb once the horde overruns you and 20 zombies have their cold dead fingers on you.

I wasn't meaning you may need to worry about gas or fumes, just sayin it may be a cheaper alternative depending on local surplus prices, you also wouldn't have to worry about modifying it which may appeal to some people and they're designed for battle so to speak. I'd still recommend the paintball mask because probably 99.9% of them are more comfortable than gas masks

I see your point and I agree. I wonder how much a surplus gas mask is going for these days/?

Centerfire systems has the 3 for 20 bucks, which is cheaper than I thought. Last flyer they sent had them 3 for 25 I think. Boy they sure look goofy, not that zeds would laugh though.

I have a chainmail lined trenchcoat that I wear around. Goes to my knees. Rather heavy. Needless to say, I don't think any zombie's gonna be able to get through that without losing teeth.

How exactly does that trench coat protect your face from fluids?

I agree... the V force is a great mask... Another good one is the fox-style airsoft mask... it is double layered with small holes in the side for room to breathe...

I really don't see the point of a mask. Just wear some goggles and a hunter's mask. (You know, the kind used when its cold and it covers your mouth and nose) thats what i'd use

Anybody else catch that?

Uh, anyway, just a few more ideas. I was out by the workshop the other day and thought the auto darkening welding masks might be pretty good, and they flip up like a knight's which adds cool factor.
Also another reason for paintball masks is that they are better suited for use with prescription eyeglasses. I've saw a few that have the mask and goggles separate which may be preferable since you could have a few pairs of goggles, I hate when my safety glasses get scratched and I can't see as good out of them, although it's more of a personal thing. I've only actually wore 2 paintball masks in my life, any info on types or models that fit the criteria above. Scott said he had a mask with a fan in it for ventilation, any info on the actual usefullness for summertime zombie slayin'?
