Living in an undead world will cause trauma to most people and the longer one lives alone the more likely they are to develop types of mental disorders. As time goes on, the death toll rises, and the undead slowly take over... which disorders do you believe that you, yourself, are most susceptible to?

I personally believe I would be most likely to develop schizophrenia. I tend to enjoy being around people most of the time and I feel like being stuck in a safe house alone would eventually lead me to living in my head and becoming more imaginative than I already am. And I feel that after that I would find myself projecting these imaginary characters into real life and having verbal conversations with something I perceive to exist out of loneliness.

Both are great answers, I could see making up imaginary friends or hating all people since they will all turn into zombies anyway, that would turn anyone anti-social.
I don't see PTSD as a problem, as I don't forsee a "post" to the "traumatic stress".
I think depression would be the most widespread mental disorder. All the dispair and carnage you would witness would be enough to bring anybody's spirit down.

Well, it's less hating other people, and starting to see everyone else as a means to an end. It's the "everyone else is cannon fodder" mentality.

Other than making sure to have a psychologist in your group, is there any steps you could take to help prevent mental disorders.

Stress relief would probably be a big one.  You would have to have a 'safe haven' that was 100% Zombie Proof.  Someplace that would could sleep all night comfortably.

People would be wound soo tightly all of the time during an outbreak.  Eventually your nerves would fray, and you would get the 1000yd stare (PSTD?).  You couldn't take any medication to help.  No sleep meds, no muscle relaxers, most psych drugs would be a no-no. Any mental issues you would or could develope would have to remain pretty much untreated, eventually finding the drugs would become extremely difficult.

It's depressing.  I think I need a pill.  Wink

Do you think people could ever get used to zombies to the point it was so normal these types of mental disorders would disappear?

I don't think you could have ANYWHERE that was 100% zombie-proof.  You just ALWAYS have someone on watch.  Always.  ALWAYS.  Sleep in shifts.  That's a huge thing.  I think depression, anti-social behavior and mental coping with being alone are the huge problems.  I do not think schizophrenia is something you can really develop, but sometime similar could happen to you.

Check out those two links. A virus may be responsible for schizophrenia AND the zombie apocalypse.
