Well, I guess my plan is to have plenty of food to keep alive for a while, maybe pick up a few guns, and a little bit of ammo. Then when the $h!7 hits the fan, I'll hole up in a cave outside of town

Lots of weapons... scary scary weapons.... and a 4x4 SUV for running them zombies over.... beacause those G**Da***** zombies won't kill themselves!! as far as food goes... I'll have some packed, but if you have food and I have guns....... who do you think is going to sleep with a full belly???

Yeah, I gotta agree with thumper, the Guns are gonna be the thing to have, especially in the first little part of the invasion... I'm thinking that a little bit of food, and a good selection of guns would be an ideal combination.
The article on the main site here
http:nozombies.com
Talks about using a .22 rifle for a lot of stuff, and I think that's pretty good advice. Of course, I think a .45 on my hip would make me feel better than a .22. But that's just me!

alright. me and my buddy up here in Iowa watch a lot of zombie movies and stuff and we realize that with everything the government experiments with zombies are a possible outcome sooner or later. and since we live here we have a store called gander mountain. its a hunting store so they have guns, food and clothing for all types of weather.
so as for our zombie plan.
first we get into my truck, a F250 4wd with a 15gallon reserve tank, offroad tires and a rhino brush guard. our first stop is to pick up anyone we wanna take with us (ie; relatives and/or partners). second stop is gander mountain, to pick up guns, ammo, food and clothing for anywhere we might go. after that we get out of town, get to a very small populated town and warn them what is happening. if they listen we stay and hold up there. if they just laugh in our faces we take the town by force, and hold up there. after that we wing it. if zombies infest we move on. that is our zombie plan.

No offense to anyone but for me personally stealin' and Killin' is out of the question. With all due respect and to paraphrase Thumper " If I've got guns ad you've got food........and guns, who goes to sleep with a hole in his stomach". People are protective enough as it is, toss in a global emergency and mix wit some lies and paranoia (media induced) and see how bad they become. Note to self, stay away from highly populated areas. Any feed back appreciated.

Hey Overkill,
I tend to agree with you, when it goes down, the living need to stick together
And to be fair to Tobias, it was Thumper who said he'd be the one eating if he had guns and others had food.
As far as Thumper's observations go, I think he's probably right, though I dislike the methodology, there will certainly be a number of folks who think the same way.
That's one reason part of my Zombie prep work has included picking up a bullet-proof vest, for the times I have to head into more populated areas. (I think in some cases, the survivors are going to be more of a threat than the Zombies might be)

Yeah, sorry Tobias about the mix-up with the names. But I agree, people are really the scariest monsters out there, especially when they panic. That's why all these crisis movies give me the creeps, because at some point the government will corral us up like cattle and bunch us all together in stadiums or schools or whatever large ill equipped building is available. Never mind the hygiene or disease infested survivors your grouped with, you probably won't live long enough to die of infection with the rapists, thieves and killers who just became your new bunkmate. I think The Crazies is one of the best examples of this type of government bungling, or the real life case of Hurricane Katrina and how that was handled should be studied.

Uh, oh yeah, in keeping with what the question was, my plan is probably to be overrun or coralled up. It would be pretty easy to take off up in the hills, while hunting I've saw a couple of places that I jokingly(at first at least) thought would make good places to set up a base or fort, like against lakes or cliffs. One place in particular about an hours walk from the house would only have one small trail where zombies could enter, serving as a perfect choke point, although marauders with mountain climbing gear would pose a threat from the sides and rear. But, I know myself too well and doubt I could leave the house as I'm too attached to it. I'll probably do my best to reinforce the front entrance, and come to think of it with the small rural population it would be very possible to stave off the minuscule hordes I would likely encounter. Then there's the possibility of infighting, look at Day of the Dead, they had a perfect set up for long term survival but due to a lack of concentrated effort and cooperation it was all brought down by a one armed man letting the undead hordes inside(although he was driven to it by his comrades). With no help to barricade, take watch, go into the forrest to gather supplies, grow a garden or what if my brother wants to bug out and take vital supplies with him? The largest threat and possible greatest asset comes from other survivors. Are they hard working people with valuable skills and willing to help out; lazy, theivin' no good scum who would rather steal what I have than earn it themselves, or simply psychos who are absolutely thrilled that all society and especially law has collapsed and would love nothing more than to throw a Molotov at my wooden house and relish in my screams of agony as I burned alive( a brick home and a large high brick wall around the premises would be nice). I really don't know of a good way to deal with the human element, I either treat all survivors as allies and trust the wrong person or treat them all as enemies and possibly condemn myself by those act as well. If you were to shoot anyone that approaches how many of those were farmers or hunters that could have helped feed you, a weaver or seamstress to help clothe you, or a doctor or nurse to heal you, and remember the empathy perspective, if your shelter had been overrun and you make it to another shelter to be turned away or shot. Maybe a Ph.D. in psychoanalysis would help screen out the bad apples.

Sounds like you've spent some time thinking about this one
can I ask why specifically the skittles and root beer? personal preference, or is there some well thought out strategic reason for those specific products?
MoneyMike, that sounds like a great plan, though it sounds pretty expensive to do all that prep work pre-invasion. Any thoughts on how to keep the budget down? like using golf cart batteries in the battery bank?

the expression is you get what you pay for. I have fond a company that has a setup on a payment plan roughly 25000 for the set up I'm after with payments in between 400to 600 a month. this is an off the grid system that would run a city block! if I tie in to the grid I get a check in stead of a power bill not to Mention the tax right off. but with alot of reading and some trial and error it can be done with surplus parts and gear.

Wow.. This place is a lot busier than it was a few weeks ago!
Kinda confused about the reference to me above... Oh well, it looks like there might be some more anti zombie folks out here after all!
I was at walmart the other day, and I saw their first aid kits, and I thought; "that would be useless in a zombie invasion"

Sorry, that was me Tobias. I had referred to you instead of Thumper about killing people to take their food, but I edited my post to refer to the proper quoted post. By the way, will diet root beer and sugar free skittles work, or will it mess with the finer details of the plan
