I was walking the woods near my house when a figure about 6 foot tall ran at me screaming but as it charged it crossed a squirrel or something and got distracted and ran off in that direction. I hear that zombies will attack anything and whatever that little animal was, was closer to it than I was.

Needless to say I took off in a hurry. Any ideas what in the world this could have been?

Only thing it could have been is a zombie............ or someone with rabies, or infected with the rage virus, or Trixie (the crazies), or some guy you owed money.
It's probably not someone you owed money, or he wouldn't have ran off after the squirrel, unless the squirrel owed him too. Could have been a mugger, but why would they chase a squirrel
I hear zombies are slow, so I don't think it was a zombie, but could be wrong.
It could be someone infected with another, non-zombie, virus or a mentally disturbed individual. Either way I would use caution when near those woods again (or anywhere, you never know where danger lurks). We need more information- have there been chemical spills in the area? Are there mad scientists known to live or work in those woods? Have there been a rash of missing persons cases in the area? Mutilated, half eaten corpses found near there?

That does sound like very zombie-like demeanor. It very much could have been what I like to call a Crackhead zombie because of their crazy a** speed. My advice if you go out near them woods again I'd keep something powerful enough to take down a man sized target with moderate ease.

Did the "zombie" have any distriguishing characteristics that you could see like visible wounds or blood? Before it started charging did it make any awkard jerks or gestures?
Or did it just spot you, scream, and then charge?
