Good deal on that mould, it seems when I see them pop up they either run 15-20 bucks or 80-90 on evilBay. My 44  was new old stock and ran $12 and 5 bucks shipping.
I think I'd saw a group buy or two for swedenelson's moulds, but didn't know about the 4 cavity hollow point designs, I'll definitely check him out.
I didn't get leading, just not the accuracy I was expecting out of the loads, but I only tried one dipper load so that was probably the problem. I probably just got lucky with the 45 ACP load and unlucky with the 45 Colt load. I had just found some REALLY old Sierra 185gr JHP's at probably 1980's prices and bought the 200gr SWC's to have a better selection of weights to test out in my SAA clone, a Hi Point and a P-14. I loaded the 185's, 200's and 230gr tumble lubes in 45 ACP and the 200's, 230's and 255gr Lee Flat Noses in the 45 Colt. I have a second cylinder in 45 ACP for the SAA clone, and out of the same revolver they didn't shoot as good. The 45 ACP averaged about 30 FPS slower than the 45 Colt, so there wasn't a great deal of spread. They didn't have a crimp groove so rolled the case over the shoulder, I used the lee factory crimp die to crimp all three bullets in the 45 LC, and the crimp depth was left the same, maybe I should have adjusted for less or more crimp, or used the taper crimp from my 45 ACP dies. At the time I simply thought the bullet was just too small for such a big case, but upon further study I feel it may have been more attributable to my technique or my powder selection.
That sounds like a great carry load, if my math is correct that's around 970 FPS right? Not a lot of the popular defense rounds will do 425 ft-lbs, and I have always liked the RNFP as an all around bullet.
Yeah, I load for the 44 Magnum and would love to have a few extra bullets to try out, I hate getting a mould and then finding out my guns don't like it. I'll check through my recycling box and see if I have any 40 S&W brass I can send you, I think I had a bunch with off center flash holes that should still be good for swaging into bullets. 10mm, 30 Remington and 6.8 SPC also have the same diameter as 40S&W brass, could you use these? Are there any defects that would prevent you from using cases (i.e, splits I'm assuming)?

Your math is good on that load, I know it's in the +P range, but the gun I use is tuned for the load, and does great!

That's a great deal on that NOS mold! Where did you find that?

I found it on GunBroker. I used to find really good deals on there, but they seem fewer and farther between nowdays. One summer, I think '07, I found that, LEE loaders in 12,16 and 20 gauge. I got a 12 and 16 deluxe for under 10 bucks each and a standard 12 and 20, I think it was 15 or 16 for the pair. It seems to be getting more like eBay, where you have guys selling new stuff for 15% over retail and used stuff for only 10% over retail. Tax time is bad too, everbody gets there refunds and bidding goes crazy. It's also bad if you're weak willed like I am. I've really over payed for a couple of items just because I wanted one and couldn't find it locally.
I looked for this the other day but couldn't find the linkhttp://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/so_moulds_45_bator.asp
I figured you may be interested, don't ask me why I haven't ordered one myself yet.
A question for you, or anyone who even has a guess for that matter. Is there anything other than spindrift that would cause horizontal shifts in impact? This was happening at close range (50 yards) with as little as 100 F.P.S. difference in velocity. Could this be something wrong with the gun or me?
