Thanks for the link to that light, I'll have an order in for one come payday. I've shied away from the surefires and streamlights due to the 123A(I think that's what they are) being "non-standard" and not as widely available. Until now I've been a fan of the MAG L.E.D. because the LED bulbs give extremely good battery life, they use D size batteries which are available practically everywhere, they have a bright, focusable beam and don't forget the toughness. I've dropped mine on the concrete at work several times with only minor scratches to the finish, been buried in the mud a couple of times, completely submerged in water and constantly used in the rain. the police use MagLites as nightsticks, and while never witnessing the process, I have observed the aftermath when I worked at a hospital and with the stitches put in some of the drunks skull, the light had to be tough to work after that. That Akoray light looks awesome and the dual battery usage looks awesome, my only complaint with the MagLite is that it is a little large and heavy, but the Akoray looks to be neither. But I do have one question I couldn't find on the website, is the beam focusable?

Hey Overkill,

Thought I'd jump in here and answer a few questions for you.

First off; the beam isn't focusable, but it's got a good combination of flood and spot, and my example is as bright as a 3d mag led at anything closer than about 50 yards. after that the mag's focusability gives it a slight edge, but I don't normally need my light out past 50 yards. of course, the maglight would also act as a club much better, so in anti-zombie type sittuations, it might come in pretty handy  Shocked

I carry that light with me every day, and it only weighs a few ounces, has a pocket clip, and provides all the light I've ever needed.

Oh, and please feel free to start more new threads here, You've already been a great contributor, and I look forward to hearing more from you!

The light does it's best with the 14500 rechargeable batteries, but is quite satisfactory with standard old AA's that can be gotten anywhere.

When you order the light, consider picking up a 2 pack of 14500's and a charger for them, you'll be glad you did, and unlike the NiMh or nicad rechargeables, they don't loose their charge over the course of a few days.

That and the 200 lumen output is what won me over, something extremely bright, small and light. The maglite is great for around the house(and I got 2 of them both on sale for less than the LED bulb alone because apparently silver was not a popular color at the local Wal-mart), but it is rather large and heavy which makes it more likely to be left in the car or at home. Luckily we live in America and there have been no movements for flashlight bans(at least not that I know of,although I may have just jinxed us) so I am free to own as many lights as I wish, so long as they don't have sound suppressors, flash suppressors, bayonets or a capacity of more than 10 batteries.

I hope yours is as good as mine has been!

I read now that they're coming with a programmable interface, which sounds to me like an even better than the 6 mode, then I could have a high, medium and low, and none of the onnoying strobes!

I have a small manual powered flashlight that I carry. Give it a crank for thirty seconds, and tada. Three hours of light.

That's pretty darned efficient.

Are you sure it's not crank it for 3 hours and 30 seconds of light? that's closer to the ones I've seen.

Something I would like to see though would be a hand cranked battery charger based on the same kind of principal so that we could charge our good 3.7 volt lithiums for our good lights! (though it would take a lot of cranking, if there was no other option, I'd still want it!)

Nah. It's itty bitty. It's basicly a penlight. But you can get good light by it, and it's uber efficent. Thirty seconds, for three hours.

Cool man, if that's the case, I'll buy them as Christmas presents for everybody this year.

Any chance you've got a link?

Hey Robin, throw us a brand and model, maybe we can find 'em that way. I'd love to get a crank light that actually worked, or a shake light that actually worked for that matter. I have one wind up light with low, high and strobe lights, a compass (that doesn't work), a radio ( doesn't work very well) a siren and maybe a couple more goofy features I forgot, but anyway it's definitely more of a "wind 3 hours for 30 second" type deal, and noisy to boot. It does have an emergency cell phone charger adapter to boot, but good luck trying to actually charge one with it. But something that could be used as a battery charger in theory if a better crank system was found, maybe I'll keep the light around to modify later.

I'll see if I can dig it up. This is my personal demon. I put something down for a second, and then I can't find it again for the life of me.

I wouldn't say it's your personal demon, it visits me quite often Grin

I currently carry a Sure Fire G2, they can be had for around $30 from Optics Planet online. It was given to me by a rather cool individual. You can also upgrade them to LED's which is my future plan, for around $30 and the bulb life lasts a lot longer.
